Avoiding Purgatory
Checklist to Holiness II
"How narrow is the gate, and strait is the way that leadeth to life: and few there are that find it!"
The Narrow Gate
(Mt 7:14)
How to be 'Perfect'
On the Road to Perfection
Practice great devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. She was conceived full of grace, without sin, and does the will of God perfectly. Our Lady
will
help you, since you are her son or daughter, given to her at the
foot of the cross
by Jesus, her Son.
Wear her
Scapular of Mount Carmel
as a sign of your humility. Be like her, a humble servant before her God.
Practice charity and mercy in all your dealings with others.
Deny yourself through Christian mortifications
Frequent reception of these sacraments:
The Sacrament of Reconciliation: to cleanse your soul of sin, and experience Jesus' forgiveness and healing
The Holy Eucharist: to nourish your soul with His Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity
The Sacrament of the Sick (Extreme Unction): when seriously ill to fortify you with His forgiveness and healing, and Communion; to prepare for death.
Have confidence in God and in His boundless Goodness. Nothing offends Him more than indifference and lack of trust. He died for
you
on the Cross.
Acceptance of the crosses he has given you. Your faith and trust in Him will mature to bear much fruit.

Holy Acceptance of Death
: placing your trust totally in His Goodness and Mercy.
Roadblocks on the Way
Lack of Trust
that He loves you unconditionally, without reserve.
Pride
: refusal to accept your 'creatureness', your dependency on God alone.
Indifference
: to His tender offer of loving you.
Procrastination
: presumption that you will live long enough to repent of your sins, do penance, and make reparation on earth.
Fear of Death
: focusing on eathly desires rather than His promise of eternal life
